The Goddess Calling movement regards the Earth, Gaia as a living Goddess. For some this may be figurative, for others literal. Gaia personifies the entire earthly ecosystem and is the means to achieve harmonic symbiosis or wholeness and balance within the natural world and the physical environment.
The Goddess Calling explores the connections between the human body and nature in culture, economy, religion, politics, literature and iconography, and addresses the parallels between the oppression of nature and the oppression of our body.
These parallels include but are not limited to – seeing women and nature as property; seeing men as the curators of culture and women as the curators of nature; and seeing men dominate women and humans dominate nature. This project emphasizes that both women and nature must be respected.
There is also an emerging agreement that the Goddess fulfills the basic functions of life in fostering ethical and harmonious relationships among different peoples as well as between humans, animals, and nature.
The Goddess Calling is an initiative started by women and all are invited to respond to the call.
Both our bodies and nature must be respected.
